“Owl Ridge” Chardonnay 2002

There was an extremely small production (295 cases) of this chardonnay, from a two-acre Russian River vineyard above Kistler’s “Vine Hill”.This chardonnay really screams its origins, and is one of the purest and best Russian River chardonnays I’ve had.  Since they didn't make much, we couldn't buy but so much!

This Chardonnay is very similar to the highly successful 2001 vintage.  It offers amazing aromas of pear, green apple, lemon custard, and pineapple, with a slight marzipan character.  The wine, for being so rich on the palate, has a very crisp clean finish with a long lingering flavor of tropical fruit and brown sugar.

The aromas jump out of the glass with bright fresh cut apples and pears, with hints of cinnamon and other brown spices.  It is beautifully balanced and has an abundant amount of fruit, with a richness and good lively texture that works well to compliment the richest of foods.

Only 260 cases of the archetypical Russian River pinot noir were made, from a 2-acre vineyard superbly placed above Kistler’s famous “Vine Hill.” Yields were very low, and the entire vineyard was hand-picked and hand sorted in just a couple of hours. (Picking began at sunrise, and all of the fruit was in the winery, at a cool 54 degrees, before 9:00 am.) this wine was gently pressed, aged in all tight-grained French oak and bottles unfiltered.

According to winemaker Joseph Otos, “This Pinot Noir offers amazing aromas of plum, coffee, anise and cola, with a slight vanilla character. The texture is full and rich, with a sweet entry that is exploding with flavors of plum and Bing cherry. The wine, for being so rich on the palate, has a very clean finish, with a long, lingering flavor of cola and brown sugar.”

On the palate, the wine offers more of the bright red tones with an incredibly rich texture and body. This is a wine that will impress even the most demanding pinotphile, while retaining an elegance to be enjoyed by all.

This limited production Pinot Noir, only 150 cases made, will impress the most demanding pinot noir lover, while offering and experience of elegance and class to be enjoyed by all.  It offers amazing aromas of dark cherry and strawberry with rich red tones and an incredibly full texture.
