The 2002 Family Zinfandel is another exciting vintage in Sausal’s long line of traditional Zinfandels. Since Sausal's first release of Zinfandel in 1974, the family has continued producing benchmark Zinfandels from its vineyards in the Alexander Valley. This wine greets you with a dark ruby color that hints of the fruit to come. The nose is loaded with berries, predominately blackberries highlighted by a touch of cinnamon. There is a heavy richness on the mid-palate with an undertone of vanillin. Blueberries abound in the soft, velvety finish. Whether you drink it now or allow it to mature in your cellar, you will be delighted with this outstanding Zin.
The 2002 Family Zinfandel was produced from estate grown grape vines averaging 50 years old. Following fermentation, the wine was aged twenty-two months in a combination of American and French oak barrels, adding complexity. This wine can be aged four to six years from its January 2005 release date. Pairing it with spicy pastas, pork and grilled chicken is recommended.

Century Vines Zinfandel
The 2003 Century Vines Zinfandel continues the tradition of reserving Sausal’s best wine for this special label. This wine was made from estate-grown Zinfandel vines planted along Sausal Creek prior to 1877, vines still producing juice Sausal considers as having the truest varietal characteristics of any they have sampled. After spending twenty-one months in French oak barrels, this medium bodied wine begins with a bright, ruby glow that is a prelude to the explosion of fruit to follow. Dark red tartarian cherries, black currant and cloves assail the palate. This ripe, supple wine will carry the fruit all the way to the polished finish. Enjoy this wine now or cellar it and watch it age gracefully for five to eight years. Whether now or later, pair this wine with full-flavored cheeses, wild game, or marinated pork tenderloin.
