For 21 years Mark Davidson has been making fine wines from premium vineyards of Australia. In 1985, with a small group of investors, Mark bought the boutique Tamburlaine Winery in the Hunter Valley and has been at the helm of the wine production and business operation ever since. The company has grown into a multi-million dollar business with a reputation for innovation. The focus is on producing high quality wines with cutting edge and environmentally sound production techniques. Tamburlaine as it stands today is the result of Mark’s sheer determination and commitment to a vision of achieving excellence.
The success of the company is as much about the quality of the people behind the scenes, as it is the quality and value of the wine in the bottle. The company has an enviable record in the Australian domestic market with one of the largest wine clubs in Australia. Top wine commentators have recognized the standards achieved, and the awards gained include trophies and gold medals for red and white wines alike.
Our winery began in the foothills of the Brokenback mountain range and includes vines that have been under cultivation since the mid 1960’s. The Hunter Vineyards currently total 50 hectares. An additional 90 hectares of vines established during the mid 1990’s some 400 miles west of Pokolbin in a town called Orange. This site is at a much higher altitude meaning the fruit ripens later than the Hunter region.
Our decision to use screw cap closures ensures quality and consistency bottle to bottle. Variation in natural corks’ permeability to oxygen, along with musty taints are the enemy of quality control in wines. It also means lower sulfur additions and therefore reduced risk of health issues like allergies, headaches and asthma.
